I am interested in learning Latvian because of my heritage. My grandparents and father came to the US after World War II. I grew up learning about the culture, but my mom speaks only English so we did not learn Latvian at home. I am involved with the Latvian-American community and dance regularly (before the pandemic) with our local tautas dejas group. Most people my age mainly speak in English when we are together, or I’ve picked up enough words and phrases to get by with context clues. I understand a lot more than I can speak. I also know how Latvian is supposed to sound! I would like to be able to have more conversations in Latvian and begin to understand the grammar. I would like to travel to Rīga in 2023 for the next dziesmu svētki!
