Hey, Giulia, I need to improve my conversational skills in Italian. What can I do?

So, the first thing that I want to ask you to do is to tell me five themes you would like to speak about. Together, we will be able to establish your learning objectives thanks to this first step. Furthermore, that will help me to arrive at the next lesson offering you the kind of material you will find interesting. 🤓 If you enjoy the lesson, working with something that makes sense for you, you will learn better and faster (👉🏽reference: David Ausebel, Meaningful Learning).

Let’s think that you decided, for example, to speak about food or nutrition.

We could start with a warm-up exercise that used to be around that specific vocabulary ✏️we need to talk about food. This first practice aims at introducing the lesson and offering you the necessary tools through which you can easily understand the rest of the class.

In a second phase, we could read a short text📃or listen to a brief audition💽 about food (eating habits, traditional Italian food, Italian food market, etc...), in which you will probably be able to recognize and contextualize better the words we have introduced in the first exercise. 

At the end of the lesson, we will have oral practice activities. At first, they will be easier, and then increasingly difficult. 🤸🏽In this last part, you will be able to use the new words you have learned before, and I will offer you a brief final feedback. We will go back to the objectives 🔙 we established together in the first part. You would have to ask yourself:

Have I learned something more about food? Have I improved a little bit my conversational skills? 

If the answer is "Yes", we can go on with the next theme. 🔜 If not, we can review vocabulary, share conversational strategies... And improve, little by little, following your rhythm.
